Safety Officer

Trillium Group is looking for an engineering-qualified professional to take hands-on responsibility for health and safety across our construction projects in Colombo. The priority is identifying site risks, ensuring safe working practices and following corrective actions through to completion. Site administration supports that responsibility.

The role

Key responsibilities

Carry out regular site inspections and maintain risk assessments, inspection records and corrective-action registers.
Check controls for work at height, scaffolding, excavations, lifting operations, electrical work, fire safety and protection of neighbours and the public.
Coordinate safety requirements with project engineers, main contractors, subcontractors and site supervisors.
Conduct site inductions and toolbox talks; monitor PPE use, housekeeping and emergency readiness.
Report unsafe work promptly, escalate serious risks and verify corrective actions before work resumes under approved procedures.
Investigate incidents and near misses, document findings and track preventive measures.
Maintain site safety documentation and support day-to-day site coordination and administration.

Candidate profile

Requirements

A degree or recognised engineering qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
Demonstrated hands-on construction-site safety experience and a sound understanding of construction methods.
Ability to read drawings, assess work methods and communicate clearly with technical teams and site workers.
Confidence to challenge unsafe practices, escalate risks and follow issues through to resolution.
Strong reporting, record-keeping and coordination skills.
A recognised occupational health and safety qualification would be an advantage.
